That's despite that fact that as a recent WFMZ-TV post estimates, between 30 to 40 percent of Monroe County residents make that commute regularly—a commute that averages almost 39 minutes.
WFMZ-TV reports that area Congressman Matt Cartwright, an appropriations committee member, is working to secure funds that would add a train line from the Poconos into New York. Anything that can be done to decrease the number of cars on the road between the Poconos and the New York metro area will help. That’s one reason the congressman is working with Poconos area businesses to help move the project along.
In addition to helping relieve the amount of traffic on the roads, the rail line would give Monroe Country residents another option. For many of them, using the time to read, talk, and even sleep on the way to work is much less stressful (and even productive) than dodging traffic and trying to find a place to park.
