If-you-disagree-with-your-builder-does-that-mean-you-have-to-fight_.jpgBuilding a home can be a wonderfully exciting adventure. Think about it: You start out with a simple lot and some ideas, and by the time you’re done you and your builder have created a home that is designed to fit your specific needs and tastes.

Of course, like most things in life, building a custom home can bring up differences of opinion and occasional disagreements. There are times when you and your homebuilder may disagree on the best solution for your home. But when that happens, it doesn’t mean you need to put on your boxing gloves and come out swinging.

It takes a team to build a custom home in the Poconos, and the two most important members of that team are you and your builder. So it’s essential to communicate your expectations and ideas clearly to your builder. Remember that you’re working on a common goal. Your job is to make sure that your builder clearly understands your desires and concerns. It’s your builder’s job to make it happen.

There may be times when your expectations are out of sync with what you’ve agreed upon in your contract. In those cases, you may have to revisit your budget and make sure your expectations are still in line. There may also be times when your builder simply didn’t understand what you wanted. Don’t assume he’s trying to go behind your back. Simply bring the issue up in a respectful manner and ask how he can fix it. It’s your home. You don’t have to settle for what you didn’t agree upon.

Of course one of the best ways to make sure that you and your builder will end up working together to find a solution is to make sure you choose a builder you trust. Here’s a helpful post that provides some criteria for choosinga quality builder in the Poconos region.

What it really comes down to is for both you and your builder to look for win-win solutions if and when problems arise. It keeps the stress level down for both of you and makes the whole homebuilding process much more enjoyable. And it leads to a home that’s a knockout!
