Home and Garden Show Season is upon us and that means many of us will be visiting these shows and getting some great ideas for a kitchen or kitchen remodel. A kitchen remodel has always been a worthwhile investment because a new kitchen makes you happier, increases the value of the home and makes it easier to sell quickly. There are many reasons to update your kitchen but these are some of the most exciting trends in kitchen design.

1. Artistic Flair - The kitchen isn't about white walls and boring tile anymore. Many homeowners are not only using their kitchens as a place to showcase their cooking skills but also to show off their creativity. Pinterest is a great place to find the perfect DIY kitchen decor project. From wine cork bulletin board to magnetic spice tins you can find some creative, easy and fun projects to make your kitchen look fantastic.

2. Eco Friendly - Energy efficiency and eco friendly are all the buzz when it comes to designing a new kitchen. From Energy Smart refrigerators to bamboo flooring it's about using sustainable and efficient products. Using fluorescent lights can cut energy use by 50%. A convection oven cooks 25% faster than a standard oven.

3.Stainless Steel – Stainless steel is still the most popular choice in kitchen appliances. It’s easy to clean, simple and looks great with any architectural style.

4. The Pantry - The butler's pantry has made a huge comeback in recent years. Having a place to store everything is not only time saving but it saves money. With a pantry you can buy in bulk which can save a lot off your grocery bill. Storing food and staples in the pantry keeps you more organized as you always know what you have on hand with a quick glance. Having a well stocked pantry also eliminates the need to go to the grocery store for incidentals which can cause you to impulse shop. A pantry is also a great way to keep appliances and other clutter out of the way when necessary.

5. Open floor plans - Kitchens of today are part of the living area -- and it's about time. For generations the kitchen has been stuffed in the back of the home effectively keeping the hostess from the gathering while she finished preparing the meal. Now kitchens are open to the living areas keeping the flow of conversation going. An open floor plan is a great option if you plan on doing a lot of entertaining.
