Top 10 Reasons to Live in Pennsylvania

Posted by John Holahan on Jul 9, 2015 7:03:00 AM

Top-10-reasons-to-live-in-PennsylvaniaJust because David Letterman has retired doesn’t mean the rest of us have to give up on “top 10 lists.” And when it comes to choosing a place to live, a list like this can be downright handy. We build homes in a variety of locations around the Keystone State, and we thought it might be helpful to let you in on a little secret: Pennsylvania is a great place to live! Here are 10 reasons whey:

  1. n the Mood for a Movie: A lot of people don’t know it, but Pennsylvania has more drive-in movie theaters than any other state in the Union. And one of the best known is Becky’s Drive-In, which has been in operation since 1946.
  1. A State for All Seasons: If you like the changing of the season, you’re bound to love Pennsylvania. But to be honest, we’re of the opinion that autumn is something really special. The colorful leaves of fall create a portrait that’s hard to describe—and makes a perfect background for enjoying local apple cider.
  1. An Outdoor Paradise: If you enjoy outdoor activities such as kayaking, canoeing, rafting, boating, or swimming, you’ll find them in abundance here. Pennsylvania is full of water-related activities—including some great fishing.
  1. An Abundance of Adult Beverages: But Pennsylvania is home to hundreds of wineries where you can enjoy tours, festivals, and weekend getaways. But the state offers more than wine. America’s oldest running brewery is been located in Pottsville—and has been since 1829.   D. G. Yueningling & Son produces 2.5 million barrels of brew every year.
  1. Food to Go With Those Beverages: When people think of Pennsylvania, they often think of Philly cheesesteaks. We have those in abundance, but we also have soft pretzels that are—without question in our humble opinion—the best anywhere in the United States.
  1. If You Want History—We’ve Got It: Check out the Liberty Bell, the site of the writing of the Constitution, the place where the Declaration of Independence was signed, and so much more. There are tons of museums and historic sites—all within easy driving distance.
  1. A Culture Within a Culture: Pennsylvania is home to the second largest Amish population in the United States. Most of the Amish live in or around the Lancaster area. And one of the things they are known for is their phenomenal food.  You don’t even have to be in Lancaster to enjoy it. Many Amish travel throughout the state to sell their homemade goods different markets and fairs.
  1. Fresh Produce: You’ll find roadside stands and both indoor and outdoor farmer’s markets in just about every Pennsylvania county. And buying produce “fresh from the farm” is a real treat you’ll enjoy twice: Once when you make your purchase and again when you taste it at home!
  1. So Much to See: Whether you want to look at mountains, waterfalls, skyscrapers, museums, vintage railroads, coalmines, or canals, you can see it all here. And it’s not just what’s outside that’s interesting. Pennsylvania is packed with art museums and historical buildings and towns.
  1.  The Poconos: People come to the Pocono Mountains from all over for the scenery, the serenity, and for the activities. Whether it’s winter skiing, zip line fun, splashing in the numerous water parks or a honeymoon getaway, you’ll find it in the Poconos.

Just think: If you lived here, this would all be in your backyard! So where in Pennsylvania should you live? Liberty Homes builds throughout Pennsylvania (and New Jersey!).
