There’s No Need to Fear Building a “Custom” Home

Theres-no-need-to-fear-building-a-custom-homeSometimes when people hear the term “Custom Home” they get a little bit nervous—even fearful. That’s understandable because to some, the term “custom” conjures up images of gold faucets, mother-of-pearl inlaid toilet seats, swimming pools in the family room, and other luxury accoutrements.

If that all sounds a little bit rich for your tastes, we understand—and we agree. Most of us simply don’t need that kind of excess. But that’s really not what building a custom home is all about.

Let’s take things down a notch. The way we approach building a custom home begins with choosing a floor plan and a location. The good news is that there are a lot of great floor plans from which you can choose.  Here are just a few that we offer at Liberty Homes. By the way, you’ll notice when you check out these plans that we have prices listed as, “starting at . . . “ What this does is give you at least a rough idea of the ballpark you’re in for building a custom home. You may be a bit surprised at how reasonable the prices of these homes actually are.

Of course pricing can go up from there. That’s where the customization comes in to play. You pick a basic floor plan (and style of the home), and then you work with your builder to tweak it and tailor it to your specific needs and tastes. Let’s say you want a bit more room in the kitchen and are willing to have a little less space in the adjoining family room. That’s probably not a big deal.

Maybe you want to build in some shelving in one of your walk-in closets. Again, it’s a bit of an added expense, but it’s probably not going to break the bank. Maybe you want to put a soaking tub in the master bathroom instead of a conventional tub. Will that add to your cost? Maybe—but it’s not like you’re installing solid gold faucets or an indoor swimming pool.

Custom homes are really more about adjusting the general layout of your home so that it fits you. If you like natural light, you might want to spend a little bit extra on larger windows. If you want a covered deck so that you can sit outside even when it rains, that’s doable. But none of those things are ostentatious.

When it comes to your new home in the Poconos, “custom” means building a home that fits you like a glove. There’s no need to fear building a custom home. Just make sure you find a builder who will help you get what you really want—what matters to you – and   leave the gold faucets to somebody else!
