One Story vs. Two Story Homes in the Poconos – Which One Wins?

One-story-vs-two-story-homes-in-the-Poconos-which-one-winsIf you’ve thought about building a custom home in the Poconos (whether it’s a vacation home, a second home, a retirement property, or your primary residence), you’ve probably given a lot of thought to why you want to be in the area. But have you given much thought to the design of the house itself?

Choosing a floor plan that’s right for your specific lifestyle is about more than appearances. You’ll want to consider how you want to use the home, and what’s important to you about the way the interior is laid out. But you’ll also want to consider how your needs may change in the future.

One of the big considerations is whether to build a one-story or a two-story home. Is there a clear “winner” when choosing? It really depends on your wants, desires, and needs.

If you want to keep living space and sleeping space separate to ensure privacy (and quiet), a two-story plan may be what you want. That allows you to keep social activities separate from your bedrooms. And if you want to retire for the evening before the rest of the family (or guests) do, you can do that.

On the other hand, an increasing number of homeowners are thinking down the road to when climbing stairs every day is something they would prefer not to do. More and more people entering retirement age are deciding to stay in their homes rather than move to some kind of retirement facility. And even if that’s a few years in the future, they’re taking steps now to make sure they can stay at home. If that’s something that you’re considering, a single level home (or at least a home with a main-level master bedroom) may be the best option.

So who’s the winner in the one-story vs. two-story challenge? The answer should be: you! Your current and future needs and desires should drive your decision about what’s best for you.

If you want to get an idea of how a one or two story Poconos custom home would fit your lifestyle, take a look at some of these floor plans. You’ll find a wide variety of options in either category. Just click on the image of the home that appeals to you and get an “inside look” at how the home is laid out!
