December-Activities-in-the-Poconos.jpgWhile it’s true that a lot of people up and down the East Coast visit the Poconos in the winter to take advantage of great skiing, there are lots of other things going on in the Poconos in December. Here are just a few of the great activities the Poconos have to offer during the month.

  • 26th Annual Old Time Christmas—Saturdays and Sundays, December 3, 2016 - December 11, 2016 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Price: $10/adults; $5/children (3-12)

Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm presents its 26th annual Old Time Christmas. Begin a new tradition with your family this year with a visit to Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm, where the Christmas customs of the past are brought to life. From the softly glowing lantern lit tour of the 19th century farm to complimentary hot chocolate and cookies, Old Time Christmas is sure to become a favorite holiday tradition for many years to come.   • Jim Thorpe's Olde Time Christmas—Saturdays and Sundays December 3, 2016 - December 18, 2016

Experience Jim Thorpe Olde Time Christmas celebration the first three weekends of December where kids can enjoy train rides with Santa, Asa Packer Mansion tours, live nativity, ghost walks, gingerbread house contest, story time, strolling carolers, expanded shopping hours, and seasonal dinner specials. Each Friday and Saturday there is live entertainment at the Mauch Chunk Opera House (tickets required). Check their website for more information about this free event!

  • Santa's Winterfest—Saturdays and Sundays, November 26, 2016 - December 18, 2016; 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Bring the kids to spend the day at Santa's workshop with Mrs. Claus and the elves. They can decorate cookies and ornaments, write a letter to Santa, take a stroll through Twinkle Town, sing and dance with their favorite Frozen characters, get their picture taken with Santa and more. There’s also a breakfast with Santa Buffet on Dec. 10, 11, 17, and 18 from 9am-10:30 am, Santa arrives at 9:30am. Click here for more information.

Visit Hawley for their 18th Annual Hawley Winterfest 2016. This event filled weekend is certain to get you in the holiday spirit. Enjoy this lovely small town nestled in the Lake Region of the Pocono Mountains that host’s plenty of holiday activities including: Delicious holiday fare; the sounds of the season filling the air;  a children's show at the community theater; artists and authors mingling with residents and visitors; ice carving; gingerbread decorating; and even a ride in a horse-drawn carriage.

  • Crystal Cabin Fever— February 3, 2017 - February 26, 2017, Sunday, Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Sometimes you need to plan a little more in advance. Here’s an event that’s worth putting on your calendar for later in the winter.  It’s the 11th Annual Crystal Cabin Fever; Pocono Mountains coolest winter event. This amazing interactive ice display is made from over 100 tons of ice! The event features a 50-foot dual-run ice slide, ice carving demonstrations, interactive ice displays, and ice carving competitions. Enjoy a complimentary hot chocolate. The expanded courtyard has live woodcarving and glass blowing, food, music, and tons of photo opportunities.
