4 Clutter-Busters for Your Poconos Home

4-clutter-busters-for-your-Poconos-homeDo you feel like clutter is about to drive you out of your Poconos home? You’re not alone. And that feeling of being overwhelmed by your “stuff” can take a toll. Robin Zasio, PsyD, LCSW, and author of The Hoarder In You: How To Live A Happier, Healthier, Uncluttered Life comments, “"I'm a firm believer that physical clutter creates emotional clutter."

The good news is that you can take some simple steps to conquer the clutter. Here are 4 “clutter-busters” for your Poconos home that can help.

Put Paper in Its Place

A lot of us feel like we’re drowning in paperwork. You may not have a dedicated room for a home office, and that can mean that important papers end up all over the place. Many of them end up in the kitchen (where food and drink spills make them a mess). Others end up in the family room—mixed in with newspapers and other reading material. You might want to purchase an industrial metal wire cart on wheels that let’s you keep current paperwork in one place—and enables you to move it to wherever you want to work on it.

Get Rid of the Junk Drawer

Most of us have a junk drawer full of who knows what. That makes them unmanageable. Instead of having a little bit of everything in one drawer, restrict drawer contents to one or two related things. First, clean out the drawers and throw away anything you haven’t used in more than a year. Then designate a drawer to one or two kinds of things. You could put candles and batteries in one drawer (You’ll know exactly where they are next time there’s a power outage). Keep items separate with interlocking drawer organizers. It will look better, and you’ll actually be able to find what you’re looking for.

Say No to Nightstand Clutter

You want your bedroom to be a place to unwind and relax, but that’s tough if your nightstand is covered with stuff. Buy some simple wooden dividers for your nightstand (Plastic kitchen dividers will look kind of tacky in the bedroom), and then only keep things there that you’ll actually use (such as reading glasses, pen and notepad, TV remote, lotion, etc.).

Conquer Your Linen Closet

Remember when you first moved into your home and you thought you’d never need all the closet space? If you’ve been in your home for a couple of years or more, those days are long gone! One idea for conquering that problem is to install smooth-glide shelves that pull out so that you can easily access sheets and towels at the back of the closet.  No more dumping everything on the floor to get at those towels or linens in the back.

Of course remodeling your home is another way to conquer the clutter. That could include built-in storage space that helps keep things organized and out of site—whether it’s in the kitchen, the family room, or the bedroom. Good builders are often able to find “wasted” space in your kitchen or hallways that you can use—instead of taking up valuable living space.  Questions about remodeling? Let’s set up a time to talk!
