Without a doubt, the kitchen is the heart of your Poconos Mountain home. For a lot of people the Poconos region is synonymous with a rustic style. But what could that look like in your new kitchen? Can you combine rustic, casual, or mountain styles with elegance and quality? Can you create an atmosphere that says, “Welcome to cabin living in the Poconos” without sacrificing comfort and convenience?

If you’re looking for some inspiration for your Pocono Mountain kitchen, you might enjoy a glance at some approaches others have taken to create casually elegant kitchens that make you and your guests feel at home.

Notice how the pitch in the ceiling of this casual kitchen evokes the A-frame style that’s so popular (and prevalent) in the Poconos region. The lighting and open design combine with the high ceiling to create a spacious feel. And the beams in the ceiling tie in nicely with the wood floors and with the dark wood kitchen island. Even the glass-front upper cabinets work to enhance the open and airy feel.

Here’s another kitchen that takes a slightly different turn with the rustic look. Again, you have the reflection of the A-frame style of cabin or house reflected in the unfinished ceiling wood. This kitchen draws on lots of natural light from the outside to make it bright. The unique island is the “boss” in this room and provides ample workspace as well as room for seating. The flagstone flooring adds a rugged but warm element to this great kitchen.

The tall stainless steel range hood in this kitchen (complemented by the high doors and windows) draw the eye up to the ceiling—once again, creating a feeling of space and brightness. You can see that the kitchen also opens directly into the family room creating one large Great Room. The island provides plenty of space for meal preparation and working and leads directly to an attached (but separate) eating area with delightfully unique stool seating that highlights the rustic feel of the kitchen.

If you prefer a galley style kitchen, you might enjoy this offering that evokes memories of some of the grand lodges many people fondly remember when they think of the Poconos. The long counter (with under-counter country-kitchen sink) takes advantage of a wall that is made entirely of windows—ensuring plenty of natural light. The wood flooring and the unfinished wood in the ceiling frame the room beautifully and provide a warmth that balances the cabinets and countertops nicely.

Wood once again plays a major role in setting the tone for this rustic kitchen—with the wood pattern from the ceiling coming down to frame the window that opens up to great outdoor views. The lighter toned wood cabinets and light colored countertops convey a country feel—and nicely balance the warm wood tones elsewhere in the kitchen. And peeking out at the corner is a wooden table that casually serves as the kitchen island.

This casual kitchen relies on a fantastic combination of stone and wood for its appeal. The rough stone is offset by the sleekness of the stainless steel appliances. The high square windows reinforce the “cabin” feel in the kitchen. And the throw rug adds a touch of color while providing a bit of softness to balance the stone and wood.
